Mr. Glynn Jackson Himself!

An old friend once told me “better late than never.” I promised you all a great interview, and that’s what I’ve delivered. It is a little late, but it’s great!

With so much accomplished, you might ask yourself, “Is he Superman?” Well, my answer is yes! Superman of the hair show. Let me introduce you to Mr. Glynn Jackson. Itsrighthair.com had the opportunity to interview Mr. Jackson. We had great questions, but he had even better answers. I would also like to thank Mr. Jackson and LaLa for taking time out of their hectic schedules to do the interview. And don’t let me start talking about the show I went to in Jacksonville last month. It was sensationally “unbeweavable”. We had a great time and were thoroughly entertained. It was not only a great show, but a very good community event.

So sit back, relax, and get to know Mr. Glynn Jackson.

Tell us about Glynn Jackson in five words or less?

Amazing, creative, hardworking, hilarious, and caring

Can you tell us more about “The Agency?”

Glynn Jackson the Agency is a marketing and production company that has been in business for over 25 years.  I created “The Agency” to address the production and marketing needs of Fortune 500 companies who wanted to reach the urban market.  I have had the pleasure of working with numerous companies over the years including Proctor and Gamble, Soft Sheen and Carson, Clairol, and Paul Mitchell Systems.

How long have you been producing, organizing and hosting hair events?

For a total of 25 years.

Is this what you always wanted to do? Was there a plan “B”?

I feel this is something that I was destine to do this because I have been producing hair shows and events since I was in the 9th grade. I always knew that I had the ability to bring people together. But I never imagined being at this point in my life where the work I do reaches and touches the lives of so many people.

Mr. Jackson you have left a mark on every major awards show, radio shows and  produced for television shows. Anything you haven’t done that you would like to do?

I think our next venture will definitely be television. Television is a very powerful medium of communication. I would love share stories of unsung heroes throughout the country with whose stories of hope and encouragement would otherwise go untold.

We set goals every day – short term and long term. Can you tell us some of your goals you have not reached yet?

I have not written a book which I feel is forthcoming. I am also very interested in producing a variety of television shows with quality content that celebrates the African-American experience.

From Hair Idol to Hair Icon, every show is creative, where does your creativity come from?

I think you have to be a little crazy to come up with some of the stuff I come up with. You have to have some sense of madness in your life. I try to come up with themes for my shows and project that are catchy so people will remember them. People often ask me “How did you come up with that?” Most times, things just come to me like an “epiphany!” Love ya Chrisette Michele!

We are all looking forward to a great show; tell us more about Hair Icon 2010 in Jacksonville, FL.

Hair Icon 2010 is one of the largest consumer/stylist/community initiatives in the beauty industry.  It has put 1.5 million dollars back into the African-American community. It was created in part to hold these companies accountability and responsible to the African-American community who is a large part of their consumer base. This will only be the start of something big and amazing and hopefully this program format will travel throughout the United States celebrating some of those African-American success stories of greatness as it relates to the hair industry.

Are there any big dates we should be marking on our calendars?

Oh wow…we always have something going on so you should mark the whole year off.  We just came back from the Dominican Republic where we produced the Latin addition of our signature show, the Golden Scissors Awards. It was called HairTropica- Where an Obsession on July is and it was a huge success.
Then we have Sensationnel HairIcon 2010, as you know, on August 1st in Jacksonville, Florida. After that, we will be gearing up for another Latin show in Miami in November.  Then it’s off to Washington, DC for our annual signature show, the Golden Scissors Awards in December and if everything goes according to plan, we will be producing a show in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil at the end of the year!

And last but not least the I.R.H question. What is your favorite hair product or tool and why?

There are a variety of hair products that I am absolutely in love with.  I really like products that make styling easy and seamless.

Sweets Phillips gives It’s Right Hair his Hair in a Minute

By: Mz. Limitless

He’s considerate sweet, sensitive, ambitious, and a go-getter. These are all admirable traits to have. Translated, these qualities establish the core of a man not willing to settle. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. These traits and then some belong to a grounded and focused man. That man is hair aficionado Irvin “Sweets” Phillips. Hailing out of Toronto, this stylist is making waves being felt here in the states and makes no apologies for it. Inspired by his mother, Sweets is taking his craft to a whole other level.

ITS RIGHT HAIR: How did your mother inspire you to want to do hair?
IRVIN “SWEETS” PHILLIPS: My mother is a stylist. So doing hair has always just been in my blood.

Who was the first celebrity that you styled?
Keisha Cole was the first celebrity that I styled. It was a lovely experience. It was for the cover of Upscale Magazine. I also styled her for Hype and Black Hair magazines as well.

Aside from being a hairstylist, what other aspirations do you have?
I’ve gotten into photography. I also like to do make up as well.

When it comes to photography, what or who do you like to shoot?
I’ve shot local talent. I’ve basically been styling and then shooting them to build up a portfolio.

What is your preference: bonded weave or sew-in?
I prefer to do a sew-in.

What would you say the most classic hairstyle for the new season would be?
Loose curls on women!

What new trends do you see in color for 2010?
Contrasting! I see where the cut compliments the color or the color compliments the cut. It’s about everything having meaning within the style.

What are some of your goals and where do you see your career in the next five years?
I want to be a hair icon. I want people to understand that I do what I do because I love what I do. If you’re in it because you want to make money you’re sending out the wrong message. I love making women smile and feel good about themselves. You could be having a bad day until you see your hairstylist.

Hair Loves Dariel… Dariel Loves Hair

Interview/Authored by: Laura “Mz. Limitless” Turner

dariel_photo2Who is that man that makes Neffe’s hair look so good? If you didn’t know — which you should, that would be ATL’s own Dariel Pulliam. This deeply spiritual, funny, smart, outgoing, beautiful specimen of a man is an artist at his craft — hair. Being focused and determined to be the best at what he does, he remembers the roots of his creativity, “As a lil’ boy I used to sit and watch my Aunt Carmen style hair. I loved the reactions from the clients as they would get out the chair and look at themselves. I looked at it as magic and I wanted to do magic.” Being a fan of Mary J. Blige, Pulliam reminisces, “I always loved her hair and fashion sense.”

Dariel’s very first celebrity client was none other than Ms. Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, formerly of the group Xscape and aka more importantly as Mrs. Clifford “T.I.” Harris (any way ya look at it)! Aside from being a stylist, Mr. Pulliam has a degree from Bauder College in Fashion Marketing. With shows like Tears, Shears and Beauty, Keshia Cole – The Way it Is, and the Frankie n Neffe Show, he can add television personality to his resume as well. Most recently on film however, Dariel can be found in the Chris Rock hit, Good Hair, co-starring the lovely Ms. Nia Long.

When asked about his preference on weaves: sew in or bonded, Dariel states, “I prefer to do sewn weaves. However, I’m a weave specialist! So whether I bond or sew it, it’s gonna turn out fabulous.” His favorite hairstyles — Neffe’s too are, “A part in the middle, black, long-layered, curled, & feathered. Another style is a part on the side with the bangs, kinda Farrah Faucet-esque. I like these looks because they’re elegant, soft, beautiful, and you can rock them with anything.” Those are two of my personal favorites for those exact reasons.

Dariel’s goals in life are much like any up and coming – whatever… rapper, producer, model, make-up artist, “My goal is to have the world know about me and all other hairstylists and how hard we work. I want people to see that our job isn‘t easy, so don’t take your hairstylist for granted. Especially the good ones! I want to have my own show that’s about the ups and downs, ins and outs, struggles and successes, that we as stylists go though. In the next 5 years I see myself traveling the world while teaching up and coming stylists weave techniques and hair care.” With passion and determination like Dariel’s, he’s destined to go places and achieve his dreams.

If you’ve been looking for that haute look to add to your tresses, Dariel is available. Not only is he available, you can now book an appointment with him at the hot newly opened, long-awaited Glam Bar salon in Atlanta, Ga.
